Financial Assistance

The HACA Financial Assistance Program provides financial support for individuals or families affected by bleeding disorders. Applicants can apply for funds to help pay for medical bills associated with the diagnosis and treatment of a bleeding disorder and any complications related to it that are not covered by insurance, as well as basic living expense emergencies.

To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Resident of the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia or Suburban Maryland or receive treatment for bleeding disorders at one of the two DC hemophilia treatment centers -- Children’s National Medical System or Medstar Georgetown University Hospital.
  • Person with a bleeding disorder or parent/caregiver of an individual with a bleeding disorder who is living in your home.

Failure to provide complete and truthful information will result in denial of your request.

Funding assistance is not guaranteed and is dependent upon availability of organizational project funds. Checks are not given to individuals; they are written to the hospital, utility or other entity that the person or family is seeking to pay. Payments are not made for reimbursements of funds spent. Disbursements will be monitored and reported to the Board of Directors. Individuals are limited to receiving assistance once within a 12-month period unless special circumstances are presented.

Applications and accompanying documentation are considered confidential to the extent permitted by applicable law. Aggregate data on the Financial Assistance Fund is available for review by the HACA Board of Director and does not include the names or any other identifying recipient information.
